In a LinkedIn post, Hunter-Torricke wrote that he has spent nearly two decades at the intersection of technology and international policy — from work connected to the UN to roles at SpaceX — experiences he says shaped his perspective on emerging global challenges. He emphasized that AI, as one of the most powerful technologies in history, is entering a world already burdened by economic inequality, democratic erosion, geopolitical divisions, and the climate crisis, while many governance systems managing these issues are, in his view, unprepared for what lies ahead.
Hunter-Torricke stressed that the goal of Center for Tomorrow is to produce practical solutions to key future questions, such as how to build economies and a social contract suited to the era of advanced AI, how to evolve the international order so billions of people are not left behind, and how to effectively address climate change. The organization plans not only to conduct research but also to build a global community equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to actively shape the future.
In his post, he also published his full thesis outlining what he believes is at stake, describing both potential catastrophic scenarios and opportunities for a better future if action is taken now. He argued that society cannot allow a small group of companies and leaders to determine humanity’s trajectory, and that broad participation and diverse voices are essential for steering technology in a positive direction.
The center is positioned as a response to a growing global consensus that technology alone will not solve humanity’s biggest challenges unless it is embedded within effective economic, political, and social frameworks. As he wrote, policymakers often govern “for a world that no longer exists,” and without adaptive mechanisms, the future for large parts of the global population could be unsatisfactory or even negative.
Center for Tomorrow is intended to function as a platform connecting people from different backgrounds – from scientists and policymakers to activists and community leaders – to collaboratively develop future strategies, with an emphasis on inclusivity and responsible technology use.
